I am definitely a fan of purple.  I tend to head straight toward the blues and purples in any nursery and the back part of my garden surely showed it for some time.  This plant was fascinating to me when we first saw it.

The purple leaves were beautiful, and the tiny light purple / white flowers were so cute!  I was tickled to see that when the temperature changed or it rained, the leaves fell into little teepees.

At one point, I was certain that they were dying off and I actually weeded them mostly out because they were failing so badly.  But the photo above was taken this morning.  They survived!  They are hardy little plants, it seems.  We were certain they wouldn’t survive summers, but they seem to be thriving in the heat so far.  They are short, so they are a cute ground-cover in front of taller plants.  I think they are a keeper!

Zones 8a-11, Full Sun to Light Shade, Repeated Blooms, Bulbs

Update:  October 2013

The two plants that we had are doing great and we bought a third to plant in front of our second camelia.  They are such a gorgeous purple and are flowering white.

Update:  September 2014

It looks like I have had success with these.  I end up weedwhacking them when I do the trim around the garden and they still survive.  I’m hasty with my weeding and they still survive.  They are definitely keepers.  I’m considering getting more!
